taking trains

i have mixed feelings about trains. just the other night i was philosophizing (yes) with my roommate about our puzzling fascination with locomotives. i blabbered endlessly about the power they assert, forcing us to stop. and wait. and look. and listen. there are few things that command such control. i fill my days waiting for trains to move, to fix "signaling problems," to let their signals down so i can cross the street to my home, to somehow carry me into the city.

every morning. every night.

l and m and i used to muse over our trains in particular. and how they seem to cast drab on all who enter. the first few months were especially baffling: complete silence, hundreds of people, half an hour. it was just uncanny. and it was during these muted trips that we conceptualized the subway movie. a whole movie on a train - a re-commanding of the commandeer. the next week of commutes was brightened with character plots, musical scores, witty titles, and scene changes in a constant scene.

which brings me to the metro and the bliss that ensues below. magical:

p.s. saw slumdog millionaire a couple of weeks ago - so good.
there are trains.
